Pegasus Success Story

The details were penned by Hayrettin Göleli, Director of Critical Systems and Business Continuity.

"The increasing transaction volume and growing infrastructure needs of our critical applications had started to raise concerns about the sustainability of our current x86 architecture. Especially for CPU-intensive applications like the flight search function, the operational costs and energy consumption of the existing infrastructure were on the rise. By separating our processor-intensive workloads suitable for ARM architecture from the x86 infrastructure, we achieved efficiency in resource utilization and gained flexibility in infrastructure resource planning.

Before the project began, our IT team conducted a comprehensive infrastructure assessment and needs analysis. Together with HPE Turkey and our partner Bilgi Birikim Sistemleri, we carried out performance and stability tests on HPE RL300 ARM-based servers. With positive test results, the necessary budget and resource planning for the project were completed. Within a three-month period, we successfully accomplished the procurement, installation, configuration, and migration of the flight search function to the ARM-based infrastructure.

In the project we initiated with the goal of improving performance and efficiency in Pegasus Airlines' flight search application, we achieved a 40% reduction in energy consumption, a fourfold increase in processing capacity, and annual savings in operational costs. Our environmentally friendly infrastructure policies supported Pegasus's sustainability approach and contributed to reducing our carbon footprint, while also raising awareness among our employees about ARM architecture and energy efficiency.

HPE's global expertise and hardware quality in ARM-based servers were decisive factors in our choice. Our partner Bilgi Birikim Sistemleri provided uninterrupted support throughout hardware procurement, installation, and integration processes, offered performance measurement and configuration recommendations, and contributed to the seamless progress of our operational processes with post-project maintenance support."
